Pope Pius V (17 January 1504 – 1 May 1572) was born Antonio Ghislieri and served as Pope from 8 January 1566 until his death in 1572. He is the patron saint of Valletta, Malta, Bosco Marengo, Italy, Pietrelcina, Italy, Roccaforte Mondovi, and the Diocese of Alessandria, along with other popes named Pius. Pope Pius V was beatified on 1 May 1672 by Pope Clement and was canonized on 22 May 1712 by Pope Clement XI. His feast day is celebrated on April 30th.
