The saint who faced martyrdom with a smile. St. Lawrence — a deacon of Rome who was martyred by being roasted alive on a gridiron in 258 AD — is legendary for his courage and wit. According to tradition, he told his executioners: “Turn me over, I’m done on this side.” That extraordinary composure in suffering made him patron saint of chefs, cooks, grillmasters, and comedians — and one of the most beloved martyrs in the Catholic Church. He is honored in this beautifully detailed round sterling silver medal, handcrafted from solid .925 sterling silver by skilled American artisans. The medal depicts St. Lawrence holding a book, a symbol of his role as a deacon and keeper of the Church’s sacred texts.

Saint Lawrence

Saint Lawrence was the archdeacon and treasurer of the Church during a time when practicing the Faith was banned. When his superiors were captured, he took the wealth of the Church and dispersed it among the poor. At his execution, he was asked by the authorities to hand over the riches of the Church, so he brought a large number of Rome’s poor with him. St. Lawrence is the Patron Saint for Chefs, Comedians, Blindness, Ceylon, Fire, Lumbago, and the Poor. St Lawrence memorial feast day is August 10th.
