The Advent

Advent is a four-week season of preparation for the coming of Jesus on Christmas Day and the anticipation of His return. It begins the Sunday nearest November 30 and continues until December 24. A traditional centerpiece of the Christmas season, the Advent wreath is often accompanied by the lighting of candles on each of the four Sundays in Advent. Three of the candles are purple (or blue), reminding us to pray and serve others lovingly in preparation for Jesus' arrival. The candle for the third Sunday of Advent is rose-colored, symbolizing the joy and excitement as the birth of Jesus approaches.
