Saint Louise was widowed and turned to her spiritual advisor, Saint Vincent de Paul, for guidance. She established the Daughters of Charity and later, the Sister of Charity. St. Louise de Marillac is the Patron Saint for Orphans, disappointing children, loss of parents, people rejected by religious orders, sick people, social workers, Vincentian Service Corps and widows.
