St. Peter Chanel (1803-1841) was a French priest, missionary, and martyr who was beatified by Pope Leo XIII on November 17, 1889 and canonized by Pope Pius XII on January 15, 1888. He is considered the patron saint of Oceania and World Youth Day. April 28th is celebrated as his memorial feast day.
