Scholastica, an Italian hermit and the sister of Benedict of Nursia, is credited as the founder of the Benedictine nuns. She is venerated as a saint in the Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Anglican faiths. Born in Italy, she is traditionally believed to be the twin sister of Benedict.
